What is Plug-in Solar?
Plug-in solar (also known as balcony solar or plug-and-play PV) consists of one or two standard solar panels paired with a compact microinverter that connects directly to a dedicated domestic socket. These systems deliver an immediate 300W to 800W of power directly into your home's internal circuit.
How Plug-in Solar Works
- Direct Load Offset: The electricity generated by the microinverter feeds into the nearest socket, powering baseline phantom loads (refrigerators, Wi-Fi routers, standby electronics, home office equipment) before drawing power from the utility meter.
- Safety & Islanding Protection: Certified microinverters include integrated Relay Islanding Protection (EN 50549-1 / VDE-AR-N 4105), which automatically de-energizes the socket plug within milliseconds if disconnected from the grid.
- Portability & Rental Friendly: Because they require no permanent roof penetrations, balcony solar kits can be mounted on railings, flat roofs, or garden pergolas and moved to a new home easily.
